What we work on
Most of what we do is repair. Springs, cables, rollers and openers wear out on a predictable schedule, and on the housing stock around here a great deal of that equipment is now well past it.
Garage Door Spring Repair
A broken spring is the single most common garage door failure, and the one you should never attempt yourself. We replace torsion and extension springs the same day in most cases.

Openers fail in a handful of predictable ways, and most of them are repairable. Opener and motor work is what we do most, so we diagnose before recommending replacement.

Opener installation is our specialty. We size the unit to your door, not to a shelf price, and set the travel and force correctly so it lasts.

A snapped cable drops one side of the door and twists it in the track. It is a fast repair, but it is not a safe one to leave or to attempt yourself.

A new door is the highest-return exterior change most houses can make. We size, specify and install it properly, including the hardware and the opener behind it.

Some garage door problems can wait for an appointment. A door stuck open, a car trapped inside, or a door that has come down on something cannot.

The western suburbs were built in waves, and the biggest wave by far was the 1970s. In Willowbrook roughly 40% of all housing went up in that decade. In Oak Brook it is 33%, in Darien 32%, in Westmont 28%, in Lisle 27%.
A garage door spring is rated for about 10,000 cycles — roughly seven years of normal use. Cables corrode from the bottom bracket up, accelerated by the road salt that comes off your car every winter. Openers built before 1993 have no photo-eye safety sensors at all.
Which means a house built in 1976 with original equipment is not overdue by a little. It is several service lives past due on every wearing component at once. That is most of what we get called out to.
Signs worth calling about
- A loud bang from the garage, then a door that will not open
- A visible two-inch gap in the spring above the door
- The door reverses immediately after touching the floor
- One side of the door hangs lower than the other
- The motor runs but nothing moves
- Grinding or rattling that has got worse over the year
Where we work
We keep the service area tight on purpose. Everything below is within about twenty minutes of Westmont, which is what makes same-day service a real offer rather than a marketing line.
Questions we get asked
Do you charge for an estimate?
Not over the phone. Describe what the door is doing and we can usually tell you what has failed and what the repair involves before anyone drives anywhere. For new door quotes we come out and measure, because guessing at an opening is how doors end up not fitting.
How fast can you get here?
We are based in Westmont, and most of the towns we serve are within twenty minutes. Clarendon Hills, Hinsdale, Darien and Willowbrook are all under ten. For genuine emergencies — a door stuck open, a car trapped, a broken spring — we do our best to be there same day.
What areas do you cover?
Westmont and the surrounding western suburbs: Downers Grove, Hinsdale, Clarendon Hills, Darien, Willowbrook, Oak Brook, Burr Ridge, Woodridge, Lisle, Lombard, Villa Park, Elmhurst and La Grange. We keep the radius tight on purpose, so that same-day actually means same day.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. We operate as AZ Tech Garage Door Repair, a DBA of AZ Tech Services LLC, and we carry general liability insurance. We are happy to provide a certificate of insurance if your village or HOA asks for one.
Do you work on all brands of opener?
Yes — LiftMaster, Chamberlain, Genie, Craftsman, Sommer, Marantec, Linear, Overhead Door and Wayne Dalton among others. Opener and motor work is our main specialty.
Tell us what the door is doing
A quick description over the phone is usually enough for us to tell you what has failed, what it takes to fix it, and when we can be there. Estimates over the phone are free.
