Villa Park has the second-oldest housing stock in our service area and a completely different character from the southern DuPage towns. It grew from two residential subdivisions platted in 1908 and 1910 — Ardmore and Villa Park — and developed around the Chicago Aurora & Elgin electric interurban, whose passenger service ended in 1957. The village even has around seventy Sears kit homes, houses that arrived by rail as a complete kit down to the doorknobs.
For garage doors this is the most distinctive town we work in. Small lots, a platted grid, and a great many detached garages with narrow single-bay openings, some of them originally built for cars considerably smaller than today's. Older wood doors are common.
