Darien is seven minutes from us and it is one of the cleanest housing profiles we work with. The city did not exist as a municipality until 1969, when residents of Marion Hills, Brookhaven, Farmingdale and Hinsbrook incorporated together rather than be annexed by Downers Grove. Almost everything here was built between 1960 and 2000.
For garage doors that means a strikingly consistent job. Attached two-car garages, standard sixteen-foot openings, torsion spring systems, and equipment that all started its life within a fairly narrow window. The 1970s cohort — the largest single group in the city — is now forty-five to fifty-five years old, which puts the original doors, springs, cables, rollers and openers well past every service interval that applies to them. If your house is in Marion Hills or Brookhaven and nothing has been replaced, that is worth a look before the first hard freeze.
The garages we see in Darien
Almost entirely attached two-car garages on split-levels, quad-levels, ranches and two-story colonials in platted subdivisions. Very little detached or alley-loaded stock anywhere in the city.
About 32% of Darien was built in the 1970s, 20% in the 1980s and 17% in the 1990s. Barely 1% predates 1950.
Work here splits fairly evenly between repair on the older equipment and replacement on the newer and larger garages. We quote both where it is a genuine question, so you can see the arithmetic rather than take our word for it.
Neighborhoods and areas we cover
We work throughout Darien, including Marion Hills, Brookhaven, Farmingdale, Hinsbrook, Carriage Green, Tara Hill and Darien Club. If you are near Waterfall Glen Forest Preserve or Rocky Glen Waterfall, you are well inside our range.
Darien has no Metra station, which is part of why the garages here are what they are — towns developed around the car rather than the train have larger, more consistently attached garages.

Garage door questions from Darien
Do you charge extra to come out to Darien?
No. Darien is inside our standard service area — about 7 minutes from our base in Westmont — and is priced the same as anywhere else we cover.
How quickly can you get to Darien?
The drive is about 7 minutes in normal traffic. For genuine emergencies we do our best to be there the same day, and we will give you a realistic window on the phone rather than an optimistic one.
My Darien home was built in the 1970s. Is the original door worth repairing?
Usually yes, if the panels themselves are sound. Springs, cables, rollers and openers are wear items and replacing them on a structurally good door is far cheaper than a new one. Replacement starts to make sense when the door is over twenty years old, more than one system needs work at once, and the panels are rusted or damaged.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. We operate as AZ Tech Garage Door Repair, a DBA of AZ Tech Services LLC, and carry general liability insurance. If your village or HOA needs a certificate of insurance, we can provide one.
